The most important thing leaders must know is themselves—their “mental lens”—how it drives the decisions they make and the actions they take.
Knowing oneself, and how to lead oneself is a prerequisite to leading others and organizations. What you don’t know, you can’t manage. And what you can’t manage, you can’t lead.
Your mental lens matters.
Cognitive and emotional biases shape your perception and your judgment. Biases are a uniquely human condition. No one is immune.
Knowing your biases, or your “mind knots” is knowing yourself. And knowing yourself positions you to know, manage, and lead others.
Know your “knots” – the knots that can tie you down, and those that can give you speed and move you forward. If you don’t manage them, they will lead you.
Learn how to recognize and manage your biases. Your leadership effectiveness depends on it.
